SciFinder, a research discovery tool, provides comprehensive access to 
authoritative information from journals, patents, conferences, books and dissertations in the fields of chemistry, medicine and related subjects.
Its easy-to-use search interface accesses:
1. Substances including chemical structures, chemical names, CAS Registry Numbers, properties, commercial availability, and regulations
2. Reactions including schemes, experimental procedures, conditions, yields, solvents, catalysts, and commercial availability
3. References from journals, patents, dissertations and more with full-text linking when available
SciFinder accesses content from the following CAS databases and Medline:
- CAS REGISTRY – chemical substances; more than 90 million small molecules
- CAplus – Chemical Abstracts; more than 40 million references (early 1800s to present)
- CASREACT – chemical reactions; more than 75.1 million reactions and synthetic preparations
- CHEMCATS – chemical suppliers; more than 67 million commercially available chemicals
- CHEMLIST– regulated chemicals; more than 312,000 substances
- CIN – chemical industry notes; more than 1.7 million business citations (1974 to present)
- MARPAT – patent structures; more than 1,052,000 generic Markush structures
- MEDLINE – a database of journal article citations which focuses on biomedicine and health.
SciFinder includes a JAVA and non-JAVA drawing editor for drawing substance & reaction queries and has a SciPlanner workspace for organizing your reference, substance, and reaction search results. With SciPlanner, you can create, save, print & share projects.

First-time users need to register for an account with an LVC email address. Once registered, you would use the login button and enter in your username & password.
LibGuide:
A SciFinder LibGuide is available online which provides detailed information about SciFinder and how to research substances, reactions and references. LibGuides are multimedia guides created by LVC librarians to provide research assistance, library instruction, subject or class specific information.
